StartLab.Brussels is an early-stage incubator for both first-time entrepreneurs and researchers ready to turn bold ideas into startups or spin-offs.
Our program for academics is an initiative of VUB to help researchers explore the real-world potential of their work. Through expert coaching, hands-on training, and access to a growing community of innovators, we support researchers on their journey from lab to market. The program is completely free for researchers affiliated with VUB.
Our tracks
StartLab.Brussels offers tailored tracks for those at the beginning of exploring their research’s potential and for those already working on a validated concept.
1. BUILD: explore & validate
Do you have a research project or innovative idea, but you are not sure if it solves a real-world problem?
StartLab.Brussels’ BUILD track helps you explore its market potential through user feedback, expert support and hands-on testing. This track takes you out of your comfort zone, with a strong focus on peer learning and interaction. You will validate the problem behind your idea, engage with potential users, and assess whether it meets an actual need.

Part 1: Problem-solution fit & IP protection (October – December 2025)

2. GROW: build & launch
Do you have a validated idea or spin-off project, but you need guidance to build a solid, sustainable business?
StartLab.Brussels’ GROW track supports you in shaping an impact-driven spin-off through personalized coaching and expert advice. You will work one-on-one with our mentors and advisory boards to develop your business model, explore funding or sales strategies, and take the next step toward launching a viable spin-off.
In this track you will benefit from:
