Konligo, a VUB spin-off, is striving to become a 100% circular company. The company creates easy-to-set-up stands for events, exhibitions, and shows, with each part of their event infrastructure being replaceable or recyclable, and produced locally with recycled resources.
Konligo was founded in 2018, following more than 15 years of research into lightweight and transformable structures at the Vrije Universiteit of Brussels, under the leadership of Niels De Temmerman and Tine Tysmans of the Department of Architectural Engineering. Sustainability has been a key priority for Konligo from the outset. The technology was designed for disaster relief in large-scale disasters so that each construction can be entirely deconstructed, and each part is replaceable, making it built to last.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, production was put on hold, but Konligo used its time wisely to expand its portfolio and make its products more sustainable. They aim to apply circular building principles to the event sector, mapping the life cycle of each part of Konligo products, from production to recycling.
Recently, Innoviris awarded Konligo with the Innovative Starters Award (ISA), worth €500,000, to help them achieve their circular ambitions.
