This first edition of The Festival will bring together exhibitions, artistic performances, conferences, seminars and other gatherings combining a 'live' onsite event and a 'virtual' online component. 10 JUNE 2022 - INFODAY New EU4Health action grant to support HERA
HaDEA has launched a new action grant under the EU4Health programme to support the European Health Emergency Preparedness and Response Authority (HERA).
This action aims to establish a pilot network of top-class laboratories and research institutes that have the critical expertise and capacities to provide the information needed in the shortest possible timeframe and to support HERA in identifying emergent pathogens and ensuring the availability of medical countermeasures for improved health preparedness and response.

Global Health EDCTP3: 2022 Work programme, calls open and infoday on 02 June.
The Global Health EDCTP3 Joint Undertaking (GH EDCTP3 JU) builds on the first and second European and Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership (EDCTP) programmes launched in 2003 to accelerate the clinical development of new or improved medicinal products for the identification, treatment and prevention of poverty-related and neglected infectious diseases, including (re-)emerging diseases. In addition, the EDCTP funds activities for research capacity building in Africa, supporting researchers’ careers and strengthening national health research systems.
In May 2022, the new Work programme has been published, including new calls for funding (see calls), and the EC organises an infoday event on 2 June (15:30 - 17:10).
19 May 2022 (online): Event Lump sum funding in Horizon Europe
Despite all simplification, funding based on reimbursement of incurred costs remains complex and error-prone. To simply the financial management, leaving more time to focus on the scientific-technical contents of the prohjetcs, the EC introduced the lump sum project funding. The EC is organising an event to present the new system and novelties.

The European Commission has launched an OPEN RESAERCH EUROPE (ORE) platform, open access publishing platform to fast-track publication, open and peer reviewed for research stemming from Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe funding across all subject areas.
- ORE enables researchers to publish any research they wish to share, supporting reproducibility, transparency and impact.
- ORE uses an open research publishing model: publication within days of submission, followed by open invited peer review.
- ORE Includes citations to all supporting data and materials, enabling reanalyses, replication and reuse.

14 June: IHI Kick-off and brokerage event
Innovative Health Initiative (IHI) will launch the first calls for proposals in June 2022 and IHI is oraganising a one-day hybrid event will take place on 14 June 2022 at Hotel Le Plaza Brussels, where creating project proposals and building strong, effective consortia are at the core of the day. Horizon Impact Award 2022
This award is the European Commission's initiative to recognise and celebrate outstanding projects (6 in total) that have used their results to provide value for society.
The award aims to show the wider socio-economic benefits of EU investment in research and innovation. By creating role models, the award enables individuals or teams to showcase their best practices and achievements. This will encourage other beneficiaries to use and manage their results in the best way possible.
The prize is a 25.000€ award for 6 outstanding projects.

Horizon Europe templates- updated version January 2022.
The European Commission has released the updated versions of templates for Horizon Europe applications - you can find them in the Funding and Tender portal - reference documents (see section templates & forms - application forms). The main changes for FORM B include on the section 3 Tables, reorganisation of the impact section. In Form A, definitions of the different roles of participating organisations have been added.
Please be aware that in case the submission system is already configured (i.e. open or forthcoming) provide the previous version of the proposal template; applicants to those calls have to use this previous version.

NEW EIT KIC (Knowledge and Innovation Community) focusing on the Cultural & Creative Sectors
As set out in the EIT’s strategy for 2021 to 2027, the Institute will launch a new Knowledge and Innovation Community focusing on the Cultural & Creative Sectors and Industries (CCSI). By uniting cultural and creative organisations from business, higher organisations and research in a pan-European innovation ecosystem, this new EIT KIC will deliver innovative solutions to help the sectors and industries become stronger and more resilient. This new community will train the sector’s future entrepreneurs, power its cutting-edge ventures, and deliver innovative solutions to the challenges facing the sectors. It would also bridge regional innovation gaps and harness the power of these sectors to support Europe’s cultural leadership.
Calls for projects will be launched towards the end of 2021 and close around March 2022.

We are delighted to announce that a VUB-led consortium, including CD2I and SMIT, has been selected to set up a hub on research, fact-checking and media literacy on online disinformation in Belgium and Luxembourg. They will join the European Digital Media Observatory (EDMO), a network of hubs on digital media contributing to the fight against disinformation across Europe. EUROPEAN INNOVATION ECOSYSTEMS
The EU aims to create more connected and efficient innovation ecosystems to support the scaling of companies, encourage innovation and stimulate cooperation among national, regional and local innovation actors. Innovation ecosystems bring together people or organisations whose goal is innovation, and include the links between resources (such as funds, equipment, and facilities), organisations (such as higher education institutions, research and technology organisations, companies, venture capitalists and financial intermediaries), investors and policymakers. The actions supported by European Innovation Ecosystems complement the actions carried out by the EIC and the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), activities across Horizon Europe, initiatives at national, regional and local level as well as private and third sector initiatives.
The Work Programme for European Innovation Ecosystems - including the calls for funding - will be published soon. European Innovation Ecosystems actions are grouped under two destinations: CONNECT and SCALEUP.

The European Innovation Council (EIC) is an important novelty of Horizon Europe aand its mission is to identify, develop and scale-up breakthrough technologies and disruptive innovations. On 10 December, the Commission welcomed the political agreement between the European Parliament and the Council on Horizon Europe. With a budget of €95.5 billion (current prices) for the period 2021-2027, Horizon Europe is the largest transnational programme ever supporting research and innovation. INFO SESSIONS: EU FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES ERASMUS+ AND HORIZON EUROPE
Together with our colleagues from European Liaison Office (ELO) and the International Relations and Mobility Office (IRMO), we are co-organizing information sessions about European funding opportunities for research, innovation and education projects. Each session will give an overview of Horizon Europe and Erasmus+, the funding opportunities these programmes have to offer, and the overall EU policy framework for the period 2021-2027.
The info sessions are open to VUB researchers and professionals who would like to know more about the upcoming European funding opportunities for research, innovation and education.
WHEN? Three info sessions, all in English, on the following dates/time:
- 23 November, 12.00 to 14.00: Life Sciences.
- 25 November, 12.00 to 14.00: Sciences and Engineering.
- 26 November, 12.00 to 14.00: Social Sciences & Humanities.
