Get to know Jessica Hekking
Introducing Jessica, our Human & Social Sciences Valorisation Advisor at TechTransfer. She is the expert you can count on for any queries regarding opportunities, networking, proposal writing and more, in the field of applied research for SSHA. To get to know our team better, Jessica is sharing her story today!
What is your role at VUB TechTransfer?
Valorisation advisor for the Social Sciences, Humanities and the Arts (SSHA).
What are your main responsibilities in this role?
I inform researchers about opportunities and applied research calls, and I support them with proposal writing (FWO, VLAIO and Innoviris) and networking. I am always on the lookout for opportunities and trends that are interesting for the SSHA. Finally, I represent our SSHA colleagues during external and internal meetings and events and give advice to our (vice-) rectorate.
How long have you been with VUB TechTransfer?
Since October 2018
How have you seen TechTransfer evolve in recent years and how do you look back on it?
We were always able to work from home for a day or two. But after covid, our work is organized in a hybrid way, which means we work both online and in the office. I think it’s a big advantage. It’s a lot more efficient to have some meetings online, but it’s also good to go to the office and see colleagues face-to-face.
What is the project you are most proud of at TechTransfer?
I love our SBO-M projects! They’re high quality, innovative and have a lot of positive impact on society.
What is an ideal day off for you?
Sleeping in and going to a wellness centre with a friend. Then ordering in and having dinner with my family. After putting my kids to bed, they fall asleep effortlessly 😊 and I have time to relax with my husband.
Last but not least, we have to know, what is your favourite invention of all time?
Running water and plumbing systems in our houses.
