Hubert Rahier, professor of physical chemistry at the VUB Materials & Chemistry research group, has been approached by the Ukrainian company Sheldor to assist in the recycling of concrete from buildings destroyed during the Russian conflict.
With the support of Dutch and Belgian partners and funding from a European Interreg project, Rahier has developed a fully sustainable method for recycling concrete, which includes reclaiming a significant portion of the cement. The raw materials can then be repurposed to create high-quality structural concrete.
