
The VUB community extends its heartfelt gratitude to Hugo Thienpont for his years of dedication, expertise, and passion as Vice Rector for Innovation and Industry Relations. Starting his scientific journey in his hometown Gooik, Hugo's remarkable career at our University began with his graduation as a civil engineer in applied physics in 1984, followed by earning his PhD in 1990, and his appointment as professor in 1994.
Throughout these years, Hugo has made invaluable contributions to our University, not only through his research but also as an inspirational leader in optimizing valorization and knowledge exchange with industry. His leadership and insights have been instrumental in helping us create a meaningful impact on society.
