On March 24, 2026, VUB TechTransfer and Foundation hosted a TechTransfer Talk focused on the value of chairs and sponsorships. Titled "Chairs and Sponsorships at VUB: More opportunities than you think," the event introduced researchers to collaboration models that serve as catalysts for sustainable funding and expanded professional networks.
Prof. Peter Schelkens, Vice-Rector for Innovation & Industry Relations, opened the talk by highlighting these partnerships as pathways for strengthening research impact.
The central panel discussion, moderated by Joris Verluyten (Fundraising Officer at VUB Foundation), featured insights from two prominent VUB chair holders: Prof. Hugo Thienpont (Chair Hamamatsu Applied Photonics Innovation) and Prof. Elvira Haezendonck (Chair Circular Port Monitoring in Flanders). The speakers shared their practical experiences on how these collaborations with external partners are established and the benefits they provide for their research.
The event also featured Elisabeth Rabaey, Head of VUB Foundation, who outlined the concrete support available to the VUB community. From the initial conceptual phase to the management of lasting partnerships, the VUB Foundation provides the necessary resources and contacts to help researchers take their next steps in external engagement.
