Photonics is the science and technology of light. Light technology plays a key role in the social megatrends such as digitization, IoT, big data, artificial intelligence and autonomous transport. Photonics enables essential components of medical technologies for the rapid diagnosis of major diseases and will also be essential during the digital transformation and Industry 4.0.Because companies do not always have the knowledge or equipment in-house to innovate in their products with photonics, the VUB research group B-PHOT coordinates the European project ACTPHAST. Thanks to the innovation projects of ACTPHAST4.0 tailored to the companies, the experts and infrastructure can be brought in from more than 25 European top photonics institutes. Researchers who want to take the step from their scientific breakthrough in the lab to a fully-fledged prototype with the latest photonics technology can also count on this support thanks to ACTPHAST4R.
