FWO will launch a new call for Applied Biomedical Research with a Primary Social finality (Toegepast Biomedisch onderzoek – TBM) for 2024 with deadline on 22th of April 2024.
A TBM project aims to develop a new therapy, diagnosis or specific prevention of a disease/medical problem or to compare existing therapies, diagnostic methods or prevention measures, in order to evaluate their relative effectiveness and cost-efficiency.
It targets Advanced “late stage” application-driven (bio)medical research with an
added value for the Flemish health situation and a lack of industrial interest.

Online info session
VUB TechTransfer will organise an online info session about this call on December 8, 2023, from 10h30 to 12h.
There are several changes in the TBM call with respect to the previous years, these include the evaluation procedure, the scoring grid, a written rebuttal, the timeline and the presubmission.
During the info session, a guest speaker from FWO will give information about the upcoming call and explain what’s new for the 2024 call. VUB TechTransfer will inform you about the support they can offer. Experienced researchers will give a testimonial about their application process for this call and there will be time for Q&A.
Registrations are closed for this call. If you still want to register please send an e-mail to Mieke.De.Volder@vub.be
Feedback session
To check whether your project idea fits within the TBM requirements, a feedback session with FWO is strongly recommended. Online sessions will be organized on December 18, 2023 (afternoon). A short abstract of 1-2 pages needs to be submitted 1 week in advance and will be discussed during a 30-minute session with Project Advisors of FWO. A template for the abstract is available on the FWO website.
Please contact us by e-mail to organize the feedback session for your project idea: Jessica Hekking (SSHA) and Mieke De Volder (STEM/Medical).
