Preparatory action. Smart rural areas in the 21st century - BIS
The European Parliament initiated the launching of a second preparatory action aiming to test the implementation of the ‘Smart Villages’ concept. The overall objective of the second preparatory action is to prepare the implementation of Smart Villages initiatives through the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) post-2020.

Fostering smart tourism solutions in EU destinations through the European capital of smart tourism
This call aims to contribute to fostering innovative, smart and sustainable solutions in tourism by tourism destinations through the organisation of the competitions for the European Capitals of Smart Tourism and for the European Destination of Excellence (EDEN). A framework of exchange of best practices between destinations participating in the contests, including mutual learning and networking, will be established.

Digital European Platform of Quality Content Providers – Pilot Project
The European Commission has opened a new Call for Tenders focusing on a Digital European Platform of Quality Content Providers. The call’s main objective is to acquire a feasibility study setting out the viability of creating a European online platform for the creation and distribution of news and/or content of general interest. The study should help European policy makers assess the long-term sustainability of such a platform through identifying the features that it should have in order to become a relevant player in the European media ecosystem and the major operational, financial and technological risks that the creation of the platform would face.
The Digital European Platform of Quality Content Providers - Pilot Project (2019-2020) will launch two calls, the first in May 2020 with submission deadline 20/07/2020 and the second in Q1 2021.
Call n°1: SMART 2019/0094 Digital European Platform of Quality Content Providers – Pilot ProjectThe main objective of the first call is to acquire a feasibility study setting out the opportunity to create a European News Online distribution Platform, able to reflect the highest journalistic standards and their role in European democracies; contribute to the strengthening of a European information sphere; reinforce the democratic process in Europe and ensure that citizens are served with plural information and sources. Tenders will include the analysis and elaborations of the following essential points:
- The tenderer’s own view and an analysis on the current situation of the global and European media market will be presented from the point of view of the background and the main objectives of the 'Tender specification'.
- Based on the understanding of the background and main objectives of the 'Call for tenders', the tender will address relevant questions and issues as well as list and elaborate them in a thematic order.
- The tender will present convincing and well-designed methodologies to each relevant question and issue so that robust and well-founded answers and conclusion could be drawn.
- In the course of the preparation of the feasibility study, various types of data and statistical data have to be gathered, processed and stored systematically. This data base has to be made available in a machine-readable format to other professionals for further use and research.
