Athletes can get overtrained. Not good for the body of course, but when are they really going too far and how bad are the consequences? The research team of Romain Meeusen of the research group MFYS has developed a test to determine who suffers from the so-called overtraining syndrome (OTS).
"This is very important, because a really overtrained athlete usually no longer reaches the same level as before. And it occurs both for recreationists as for top players." - Romain Meeusen
The study is aimed to simplify and optimize the distinction between nonfunctional overreaching (NFO) and overtraining syndrome (OTS) by developing a multivariate approach including hormonal and psychological changes, measured during the Training Optimization (TOP) test.
