
VUB researcher Victor Grosu wins MedTech Accelerator 2020 with SMARCOS project
Robots and humans are now able to work together to counter societal challenges such as the ageing population and the rising healthcare costs. Exoskeletons can help people to walk again, recover from injuries and compensate for disabilities. To allow the close collaboration between man and machine in a safe way, novel approach for hardware and software designs is highly required. The SMARCOS project is developing a SMART actuator for rehabilitation and assistive devices. Using modular actuators, a variety of end user robotic applications can be assembled in a plug and play manner by connecting multiple smart actuators together, similar to LEGO building blocks. With this project, VUB researcher Victor Grosu would like to follow the footsteps of Axiles Bionics in his keen aspiration to start a spin-off company. The SMARCOS project stems from a Horizon2020 EU-project, in which the VUB BruBotics research group has been a key partner.
