On 8 May, VUB made its mark at Knowledge for Growth 2025 in Antwerp, the go-to conference for life sciences and biotech in Flanders. With pitches, panels, and plenty of networking, it was a day full of ideas and meaningful connections.
A key highlight was VUB TechTransfer’s presence at the TTO Flanders booth, where we teamed up with the other Flemish universities to welcome visitors with collaboration opportunities, conversation, and a touch of Belgian hospitality (yes, chocolates were involved).
The innovative research at VUB was highlighted during the Research-2-Business Pitch Session: Dr. Jessie Neuckermans presented EVOSens, an evolutive therapy development platform for metabolic liver disorders; while Prof. Lorenzo Franceschini shared his work on personalised synthetic RNA for next-generation therapeutics. Both are strong examples of VUB research with real-world potential.
At booth 20, the µFlow Cell presented MICROLAB, VUB’s new 300 m² cleanroom facility. It is a high-tech space for building microfluidic devices in silicon and glass. Alongside them, the Molecular Imaging and Therapy (MITH) Research Group showcased its In Vivo Cellular and Molecular Imaging (ICMI) and Vector Development Unit (VDU) core facilities, while other VUB groups were on site to represent the broader scope of our research ecosystem.
Meanwhile, Prof. Han Remaut (VIB-VUB) shared his expertise at a panel discussion on how biotech and health tech can support a healthier, more sustainable future, a timely conversation in today’s fast-evolving innovation landscape. Throughout the day, the VUB TechTransfer team, including Peter Schelkens, Suzy Renckens, Gert Vanmarcke, Jacky Boonen and Hugo Loosvelt, was on the move, connecting with partners across the life sciences community.
A big thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth, joined the pitch session or sparked a new idea. Missed us as the event? You're always welcome to contact us.
