Discover 10 success stories of the 5 Flemish universities by TTO Flanders on the FRIS research portal (EWI) with VUB research about self-healing robots and a one-stop-shop solution for photonics innovation. 

Herman Terryn is professor at the Faculty of Engineering of VUB with a chair in Surface Science and Engineering and part time professor in the group Corrosion and Electrochemical of Tu Delft.

In the context of this project the VUB built the Circular Retrofit Lab as a demonstrator lab on its campus (Brussels), in which new and existing building solutions will be integrated that are demountable, adaptable and reusable, in comparison with Meccano kits.

In September 2019 VUB added a new spin-off to its portfolio, called Axiles Bionics. Later that month the company announced that it has successfully completed a €2.4M Series A financing round, led by its co-founders and several private investors, including VUB and ULB alumni.
